Sleep apnea and TMJ treatments in Ottawa, ON
The Benefits of
Our TMJ and Sleep Apnea Technology
Our TMJ and sleep apnea technology will help get to the bottom of your sleep disorder. Dr. Haissam Dahan is on the front line for screening and managing patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). OSA is a severe sleep disorder that restricts a person’s flow of oxygen while sleeping, causing them to wake up continuously throughout the night.
Since the number of people diagnosed with OSA is constantly growing, Dr. Dahan is always looking for new ways to provide accurate treatment in a faster, more customizable fashion. His drive to remain on the cutting-edge of OSA treatment is the reason we’re proud to offer three new pieces of technology: home sleep tests, 3D printed oral appliances, and digital impressions.
Home Sleep Test
A polysomnography, also known as a sleep test, is the most credible way to diagnose a sleep disorder. While the test is essential, traditional in-lab sleep tests can be time-consuming, invasive, and just downright uncomfortable. Luckily, Dr. Dahan offers an alternative that solves all of those issues.
Dr. Dahan can collect all of the same data through an at-home sleep test. This allows you to monitor your sleep habits in the comfort of your own home.
Afterward, we’ll send the results to a certified sleep physician who can diagnose your disorder and prescribe a treatment that works for you.
Digital Impressions
The days of goopy, invasive putty impressions are over! When you visit the Ottawa TMJ & Sleep Apnea Clinic, we use a digital scanner to collect impressions of your smile. This exciting piece of technology works with a simple scan of the teeth, meaning there’s no need to insert anything into the mouth. This pain-free solution allows patients to avoid the uncomfortable gagging sensation that sometimes accompanies traditional impressions.
Digital impressions are an excellent option because they increase productivity, efficiency, and accuracy while reducing the overall treatment time for our Ottawa patients.
3D Printed Oral Appliance
While the most common form of sleep apnea treatment is a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device, a majority of patients find it to be uncomfortable, loud, and invasive.
An oral dental appliance is an excellent option for patients looking for a more convenient alternative to CPAP. This type of treatment prevents sleep apnea episodes by shifting the jaw forward, allowing the airway to remain open while sleeping.
At the Ottawa TMJ & Sleep Apnea Clinic, Dr. Dahan can create one-of-a-kind oral dental appliances in his office by collecting same-day digital impressions of your smile. Then we will manufacture the device using an advanced CAD/CAM machine.
Benefits
There are many advantages of using a 3D-printed oral dental appliance in comparison to a traditional lab-made oral appliance. 3D-printed oral appliances are:
- More comfortable
- Acrylic-free
- BPA-free
- Smaller
- More lightweight
- More durable
If you decide that oral appliance therapy is right for you, we can customize a device and have it ready for you in as little as two weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our TMJ and Sleep Apnea Technology
With an at-home sleep test, you’ll be able to set up the equipment and sleep in the privacy of your own home. With easy-to-follow instructions, it typically takes 5 to 10 minutes to set up the device. The MediByte system will record your airflow, snoring, oxygen saturation, heart rate, body positions, and event markers.
Once you wake up from your night’s rest, you’ll remove the equipment and upload the information to the internet where it will be analyzed to determine if you have obstructive sleep apnea, also called OSA. If you’re diagnosed with OSA, we can begin treatment right away.
Our TMJ and sleep apnea technology will ensure your treatments are comfortable, precise, and effective.
If you have to use the restroom during the sleep study or do anything that requires getting up, make sure the device remains on and continues recording. This will ensure that the results are accurate and the diagnosis is correct. You’ll only remove the equipment once the test is over.

Our TMJ and sleep apnea technology will ensure your treatments are quick, precise, and comfortable. Our home sleep test will collect data while you doze off in the comfort of your own home. It’s the same technology that’s used in sleep labs and will provide accurate results without having to leave your house.
We utilize digital impression technology to capture images of your mouth to craft your night guard or oral appliance. This will ensure a perfect fit on your new device. When you get digital impressions, your mouth is scanned with a radiation-free laser that will transmit the images within 2 to 3 minutes. No more uncomfortable, putty-filled trays. Digital impressions are faster and more accurate.
With the help of our CAD/CAM machine, you won’t have to wait weeks to start your sleep apnea treatment. We can craft your oral appliance on-site so you can start enjoying the benefits of a healthy night’s rest right away.
